The New Year, the Pressure of Third Grade, and Why We Keep Going

As we step into this new year, I am choosing intention over resolution. Instead of striving for perfection, I am committing to consistency. Showing up for my children every day—advocating, supporting, encouraging, and reminding them that a test score does not define who they are or what they are capable of becoming. Showing up for other parents who feel overwhelmed and unsure of how to navigate a system that often feels stacked against their children.

This year, my focus remains on awareness, shared experience, and encouragement. Too many parents are told to wait. Too many children are misunderstood or mislabeled when what they truly need is proper instruction and support. I share these thoughts not as a therapist or professional, but as a parent living this journey and learning alongside my children.

The new year is not about erasing the past. It is about carrying forward what we have learned and letting it guide how we move ahead. Grace will lead us. Advocacy will guide us. And hope—steady, honest, and hard-won—will remain at the center of it all.

If you are a parent reading this and feeling unsure of where to turn, I want you to know you do not have to navigate this alone. Reach out. Ask questions. Connect with other parents, educators, and organizations that understand dyslexia and learning differences. Sometimes support starts with a single conversation—and that conversation can change everything.

We step into this year together—one day, one challenge, and one small victory at a time.
